10,936 candidates file 10,958 nominations for VC Polls

Agartala, 8th September 2026 : A total of 10,958 nomination papers have so far been received by Returning Officers across 52 blocks for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections, with 10,936 candidates entering the electoral fray.

State Election Commissioner Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty said the nomination process is still underway and the Commission has not yet received the complete consolidated figures. According to the data available so far, Tipra Motha has emerged with the highest number of candidates, followed by the CPI(M).

The party-wise breakup of candidates is: Tipra Motha 4,371, CPI(M) 2,484, BJP 1,974, IPFT 486, Congress 466, CPI 4 and candidates under other categories 1,151.

Elections will be held across 587 Village Committees, covering 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats. The large number of nominations indicates a keen contest across the village-level electoral landscape.

The filing of nomination papers began on September 2, a day after the State Election Commission issued the election notification. The nomination process is scheduled to conclude with the submission of papers, after which scrutiny will be conducted on September 9.

Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nominations on September 11. Following the withdrawal process, the final list of contestants is expected to be published.

Polling for the Village Committee elections has been scheduled for September 28, setting the stage for a major electoral exercise across the ADC areas.
