Tipra Motha says one-fourth of VC seats secured without contest

Date:

Agartala, 10th September 2026 :  The Tipra Motha Party has claimed a strong early advantage in Tripura’s 2026 Village Committee elections, announcing that its candidates have secured 1,148 seats without facing a contest.

The party said the uncontested seats represent nearly 25 per cent of the 4,597 Village Committee seats across the state. The claim comes ahead of polling and follows the completion of the nomination process.

The development assumes political significance as the Village Committee elections are being held after a considerable gap and are expected to test the ground-level strength of political parties, particularly in the state’s tribal areas.

Tipra Motha said its candidates have secured uncontested seats across 30 blocks in eight districts. According to the party, the figure includes four blocks in Dhalai, three in Gomati, five in Khowai, four in North Tripura, three in Sepahijala, six in South Tripura, two in Unakoti and three in West Tripura.

The elections are being held amid a political understanding between the BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT, which have reached an arrangement over seat-sharing.

With 4,597 seats spread across 2,634 constituencies, the Village Committee polls are expected to attract considerable attention in the tribal belt.

However, the final electoral picture will only emerge after the completion of the scrutiny and withdrawal stages and the publication of the final list of contesting candidates.

If the claim of 1,148 uncontested victories is reflected in the final official figures, Tipra Motha will have established a sizeable presence in the Village Committees even before voters cast their ballots.
