176 stalls to open in Agartala Book Fair; Online lottery held for 131 stalls

Agartala, March 18, 2023: Altogether 176 book stalls will be opened in the 41st Agartala Book Fair at International Fair Ground here from March 24 next while 131 stalls were distributed through lottery.

An online lottery for book stalls at the 41st Agartala Book Fair were distributed on Saturday. This online lottery is held in the conference hall of the Directorate of Information and Cultural Affairs department’s office. In total, 131 stalls comprised 63 large, 45 medium and 23 small stalls were distributed in the lottery.

Before the start of this online lottery, Ratan Biswas, Director of the ICA department, said that three sizes of small, medium and large book stalls will be created at this year’s book fair. There will be a total of 176 book stalls while 45 stalls will be out of lottery.

He also said that the state government is trying to make the book fair international. For the fourth time, the book fair is going to be held at the International Fair premises in Hapania here. The book fair will continue from March 24 to April 5. Day by day the importance of the fair to the book publishers of the state and outside the state is increasing. This year also more than 190 applications have been submitted for opening book stalls.

He urged people from all walks of life to participate in these 13 days of book fair. Later, book stalls are distributed among various publishers through online lottery. Debasish Das and Sanjib Chakma, Joint Directors of the ICA department, Rakhal Majumder, Secretary of Publishers and Booksellers Association, Uttam Chakraborty, Secretary of All Tripura Booksellers and Publishers Association along with representatives of Tripura Publishers Guild, Shefali Publications, Parul Library, Bharatiya, Haveli, Akshar, Sulekha, Book Palace, were present on this occasion.
