Awareness drive held against child marriage and substance abuse

Agartala, 14th September 2026 : An awareness programme focusing on the prevention of child marriage and substance abuse was organized at Rayermura SB School under Sadar subdivision on Monday afternoon.

The programme was jointly organised by the school’s Headmistress Shampa Saha and the Tripura State Commission for Women. Chairperson of the State Commission for Women Jharna Debbarma, Inspector of Schools, Dukli, Dipankar Das, Headmistress Shampa Saha and School Management Committee Chairman Tapan Sarkar attended the programme, along with teachers, students and guardians.

The participants held detailed discussions on the need to build a society free from child marriage and substance abuse. Addressing the gathering, Jharna Debbarma said that child marriage and drug addiction have emerged as serious social challenges, particularly in the present digital age. She stressed that sustained public awareness is essential to tackle these problems effectively.

Debbarma cautioned parents against marrying off their children at an early age in an attempt to evade their responsibilities. She urged families to safeguard the future of their children and avoid taking decisions that could adversely affect their education and prospects.

Speaking on substance abuse, she said addiction is pushing many young people towards a destructive path and endangering their lives. She appealed to students, parents and members of the community to stay away from drugs and work collectively to create a healthier and drug-free society.

The programme concluded with an appeal for greater community participation and continued awareness efforts to protect children and young people from these social evils.
