Students Block Road Over Teacher Shortage in Khowai

Date:

Agartala, 14th September 2026 : Students of West Rajnagar English Medium School staged a road blockade on the Chebri–Tulashikhar main road on Monday, demanding an immediate and permanent solution to the shortage of teachers at their school.

The blockade, which continued for a considerable period from Monday morning, disrupted vehicular movement and led to long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road.

According to locals and parents, the school has a large number of students from the nursery to primary sections, but only three teachers are currently available to conduct classes. They alleged that the shortage of teachers has been affecting academic activities at the school for a long time.

Demanding the immediate appointment of adequate teaching staff, the students came out onto the road and began protesting. The blockade caused significant inconvenience to commuters and motorists in the area.

Parents alleged that despite the teacher shortage persisting for a long time, no effective steps had been taken to resolve the issue. They also claimed that West Rajnagar High School has been facing a severe shortage of teachers for a prolonged period, adding to the growing resentment among students and guardians.

Following information about the road blockade, administrative officials reached the spot and held discussions with the protesters. The officials assured the students and parents that steps would be taken to address the shortage and ensure adequate teachers at the school.

Following the assurance, the students withdrew the blockade, after which traffic movement gradually returned to normal.

However, parents and local residents said their concerns would remain until a permanent solution is implemented. They warned that if the teacher shortage is not resolved within a stipulated period, they may launch a larger protest in the coming days.
