Agartala, 15th September 2026 :Tension has reportedly emerged in Purba Pratapgarh’s Daspara area following a dispute over a road construction project, with local residents alleging that a group of people obstructed development work after it was sanctioned and initiated through the ward office.
According to residents, the road had remained in poor condition for a long time, prompting repeated appeals to the authorities for its repair. They said the project was eventually sanctioned and work began in the presence of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and local councillor.
However, residents alleged that two individuals, identified by them as Sanjit and Sangjit, intervened and stopped the work, questioning the presence of the contractor and insisting that the work could not continue in the manner it was being carried out.
The residents claimed that an argument followed when they objected to the alleged obstruction. They further alleged that an altercation took place while they were recording the incident on video and claimed that one of their members, identified as Sanjit Das, attacked them. They also alleged that a case was subsequently filed against them in connection with the incident.
Residents said around 250 families live in the locality and claimed that nearly 220 BJP supporters and voters have been residing there for years. They alleged that despite repeated requests, the area has not received adequate development attention.
Women associated with an urban development project also alleged that attempts to carry out the work had repeatedly faced resistance. They claimed that workers were distressed and that there had even been an incident involving damage to a tin roof during an earlier dispute.
The residents have appealed to the administration for a fair investigation into the alleged obstruction and confrontation, demanding that the road work be completed without further disruption.
The area falls under Ward No. 42, represented by Councillor Swadhin Chandra Pal. Residents said they are preparing to pursue legal action and have sought administrative intervention to resolve the dispute.
