Agartala, 15th September 2026 :A daytime burglary at a house near the bypass road in Kamalpur town has sparked concern among residents after thieves allegedly broke into the premises and escaped with cash, gold ornaments and other valuables.
The incident occurred at the residence of Mohanlal Roy, situated behind Kamalpur Town Hall. According to family members, Roy, his wife and son left the house at around 7 am on Monday to accompany their son to Agartala Airport before his journey to Kolkata. The family returned at around 9 pm and found the house in a ransacked condition.
On entering the premises, they noticed that several belongings had been scattered around. The wardrobe and showcase had reportedly been broken open. The family alleged that around ₹1.5 lakh in cash, four bhori of gold ornaments, weighing approximately 46 grams, and other valuables were stolen.
The matter was immediately reported to the police. A team reached the spot and began investigating the burglary. Investigators are examining the possible point of entry and gathering information to identify those involved.
Roy is an LIC agent, while his wife works as a post office agent. The fact that the house was targeted during the family’s absence has caused anxiety in the locality.
Roy’s brother-in-law, Papan Sen, informed the media about the incident. The family has urged police to intensify the investigation and recover the stolen cash, jewellery and other valuables.
