Agartala, 16th September 2026 : September 16: Tripura Police and BSF personnel have seized 1,790.2 kg of ganja, 5,660 yaba tablets and 269 cattle, among other contraband, during various operations in Sepahijala district this year, police said.
The seizures also included 289 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup, 22 grams of brown sugar, 2,650 sarees, 6,420 kg of rice, 459 kg of cumin and 25 kg of coffee powder, according to a clarification issued by the Superintendent of Police, Sepahijala district.
According to the Sepahijala SP, the Madhupur police station jurisdiction covers 18.36 km of international border, along which seven Border Outposts (BOPs) are operational.
Police and BSF personnel regularly conduct joint operations at different locations to prevent smuggling and other illegal activities along the border.
Police also maintain regular vehicle-checking operations to prevent the transportation of prohibited and illegal goods, the clarification said.
As a result of the various operations, six cases have been registered under the NDPS Act, four under the Foreigners Act and one under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, police said.
However, the Officer-in-Charge of Madhupur police station and the company commanders of the BSF BOPs under its jurisdiction have been directed to conduct regular joint patrolling and maintain heightened surveillance to effectively detect and prevent border-related crimes.
