Agartala, 16th September 2026 :East Police Station has recovered a gold chain allegedly snatched from a woman during her morning walk in the Jogendranagar area of Agartala. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Officer-in-Charge of East Police Station, Krishnadhan Sarkar, said the incident took place on September 11. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and subsequently arrested two suspects. While one of the accused has been sent to judicial custody, the other is currently in police remand.
During interrogation, the accused in police custody reportedly disclosed that the stolen gold chain had been pledged for a gold loan of approximately Rs 1.28 lakh. Police later traced the pledged jewellery and recovered it from the concerned location.
According to the OC, the recovered gold chain has an estimated market value of around Rs 2 lakh. Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether any other persons were involved in the snatching.
The East Police Station has also decided to strengthen patrolling in different parts of the city ahead of the upcoming Puja festivities. The intensified surveillance is aimed at preventing snatching and other street crimes during the festival season.
