Agartala, 20th September 2026 : Sonamura Police recovered and seized around 44 kg of dry ganja during a patrolling operation along the Paharpur border road, police said on Sunday.
According to Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station Tapas Das, police personnel were conducting routine patrolling at different points along the Paharpur border road when they noticed the suspected contraband lying unattended.
The police team subsequently seized the ganja after completing all necessary legal formalities and recorded it as unclaimed property.
The approximate market value of the seized ganja has been estimated at around Rs 22 lakh, police said.
The Sonamura Police Station has launched an investigation to identify the person or persons who allegedly owned and abandoned the contraband. Police are also examining the circumstances under which the ganja was brought to the area and left unattended.
