Agartala, 20th September 2026 : Tripura government has declared September 28, 2026, as a paid holiday in areas going to polls in the upcoming General Election to Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
According to a notification issued by the General Administration (Secretariat Administration) Department on September 17, the holiday has been declared under Section 135B(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, in connection with the Village Committee elections scheduled for September 28.
As per the notification, all government offices, magisterial courts, financial institutions and other establishments falling within the jurisdiction of the Village Committees where polling will be held will remain closed on the day of voting.
The government has also directed that every person employed in government establishments, businesses, trade, industrial undertakings or other establishments and entitled to vote in the Village Committee elections shall be granted a paid holiday on the polling day.
The provision will also benefit electors who are ordinarily residents of a constituency and registered as voters there but are employed or serving outside the constituency. This includes employees of government establishments, industrial undertakings and other establishments, as well as casual and daily-wage workers working outside the constituency where polling is scheduled.
However, the notification states that the holiday provision will not apply where an employee’s absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which the person is engaged.
