Agartala, 24th September 2026 : An auto-rickshaw was allegedly stolen from the Battala cremation ground area while its owner was attending a relative’s funeral rites, with the incident raising concerns as the spot falls under the jurisdiction of West Police Station.
According to the owner, he had parked his auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR01N2515 outside the cremation ground before joining the last rites. After the rituals and rain subsided, he returned to find the vehicle missing. Despite searching the surrounding areas, he could not locate it and immediately informed the Battala police outpost before filing a written complaint at West Police Station.
The owner alleged that more than 24 hours had passed without any recovery of the vehicle. He said the auto-rickshaw was his primary source of income and that he had purchased it through a loan, requiring a monthly instalment of around Rs 7,000.
He further said his family is facing financial difficulties, including regular medical expenses for his wife, and the theft has made it difficult to meet household needs. Alleging inadequate cooperation, the owner urged police to recover the vehicle at the earliest, identify those responsible and take legal action.
