Agartala, 24th September 2026 : A youth was allegedly brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants during a music programme organised on the occasion of Ganesh Puja at Netaji Corner on the main road in Kailashahar on September 20. The victim’s family has alleged that despite submitting a written complaint, Kailashahar police have neither registered the case nor arrested the accused even three days after the incident.
According to the victim’s family, Amit Sarkar, a resident of the Gobindapur area, had gone to attend the music programme, which reportedly drew a crowd of several thousand people. During the programme, a group of youths allegedly attacked Amit in the middle of the public gathering over an unspecified issue.
The attackers allegedly assaulted him severely, leaving him bleeding before fleeing the spot. Amit was initially taken to RGM Hospital in Kailashahar for treatment. As his condition was reportedly critical, doctors referred him to Unakoti District Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
According to Amit’s mother, Biswa Rani Sarkar, doctors at the district hospital have subsequently advised that he be shifted to GBP Hospital in Agartala for better treatment as his condition has not yet stabilised. She alleged that Amit sustained a serious head injury and suffered severe trauma to his chest during the assault.
Biswa Rani Sarkar said she had submitted a written complaint at Kailashahar police station identifying the alleged attackers by name. However, she alleged that even after three days, police had not registered the case or taken any visible action against the accused.
She further alleged that police officials had neither visited the hospital to enquire about Amit’s condition nor summoned or questioned the accused. The family also claims that the alleged attackers have been threatening them and pressuring them to withdraw the complaint.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother said the family is facing financial difficulties and is unable to arrange the money required to take Amit to Agartala for advanced treatment.
The allegations have raised questions over the response of the local police to the incident.
