Agartala, 25th September 2026 : The political atmosphere in Agartala turned tense again on Friday evening as Left student and youth organisations staged a protest against the alleged use of force by police against TET aspirants during yesterday’ agitation in front of the Education Bhavan.
The protest was organised jointly by the DYFI, TYF, SFI and TSU. The organisations took out a demonstration in the capital without prior permission, raising slogans against the state government and police administration.
The protesters alleged that TET aspirants, many of whom are aspiring to become teachers, were forcibly removed and detained by police during Thursday’s agitation. They condemned what they described as excessive use of force against the protesters.
The procession started from the Chatra Yuva Bhavan, but police stopped the march. As the organisers attempted to proceed despite the police barricade, a scuffle broke out between the protesters and police personnel.
Later, the protesters blocked the road near Paradise Chowmuhani and prepared to hold a protest meeting. Police eventually detained the demonstrators and took them to a detention centre to restore normal traffic and maintain law and order.
DYFI state secretary Nabarun Deb alleged that police had attacked and used batons against TET aspirants at the direction of the Chief Minister. He accused the government of running an “autocratic regime” and said such measures would not stop democratic protests.
West Tripura district police superintendent Namit Pathak reached the spot and monitored the situation. He said road blockades in the city cannot be allowed as they cause significant inconvenience to commuters and create traffic congestion. Regarding Thursday’s incident, he said police have to take necessary measures while keeping the law-and-order situation in mind.
