Agartala, 26th September 2026 : In a major anti-narcotics operation, police seized 800 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from a Suzuki Ertiga at Chinibati checkpoint in Unakoti district on Saturday and detained three persons allegedly involved in transporting the consignment.
Unakoti district SP Rishav said the operation followed specific information received by police regarding the transportation of an NDPS substance. Acting on the input, the Officer-in-Charge of Kailashahar Police Station sent a police team to the area, while personnel at the Chinibati checkpoint were already conducting vehicle checks.
“Based on the information, the vehicle was intercepted through a joint effort and subsequently seized. During the search, 800 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered,” the SP told reporters.
Three persons travelling in the vehicle were apprehended and are presently in police custody. Rishav said they would be interrogated as part of the investigation before being produced before the court.
The SP also emphasised that the seizure was carried out in accordance with prescribed legal procedures. Independent witnesses and an executive magistrate were present during the recovery, he said, adding that all required protocols were followed.
Police are now focusing on establishing the source and intended destination of the consignment. Asked from which direction the vehicle had arrived, Rishav said it was coming from Dharmanagar.
“Where the consignment was brought from and other details will be known after interrogation,” the SP said.
The police investigation is continuing, with further action expected based on information obtained from the three apprehended persons.
