Agartala, 28th September 2026 : Nearly 79 per cent of voters exercised their franchise in the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) by 5 PM on Monday, State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty said.
Polling was conducted across 44 blocks at 1,095 polling stations, with voting beginning at 7 AM. Of the 9,61,977 voters enrolled across the election area, around 6,68,247 were assigned to the polling stations where voting took place on Monday.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), 1,623 seats were filled without a contest. Besides, 6,628 personnel engaged in election duty, including polling and police personnel, had already cast their votes through the Election Duty Certificate (EDC) facility before polling day.
Chakraborty said voting continued at some polling stations beyond the scheduled closing time due to voters still waiting to exercise their franchise.
“Polling is still continuing at some polling stations even after 4 PM. We expect the process to conclude shortly, after which the receiving process will begin,” he said.
After polling ends, election teams will transport ballot boxes, ballot papers and other materials to the designated receiving centres under the respective Returning Officers. The SEC said the final turnout would be announced only after scrutiny of the Returning Officers’ diaries and ballot paper accounts.
The Commissioner described the overall polling process as largely peaceful, orderly and fair. However, an incident of shooting was reported outside Warrenbari S.B. School polling station in Gomati district, in which a candidate and another person accompanying him were reportedly injured. Both were taken to hospital, while the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police visited the location.
Meanwhile, the SEC received three complaints from political parties, primarily alleging that polling agents had either been removed from polling stations or were prevented from remaining inside. Chakraborty said the complaints would be considered after the Commission receives the relevant inquiry reports.
The SEC expects the last polling teams to arrive at the receiving centres by around 10 PM. The final turnout and other election-related figures will be compiled thereafter and released following verification.
