Agartala, 28th September 2026 : West Tripura Lok Sabha MP and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is scheduled to travel to New York from October 5 to 9, 2026, as a member of India’s Parliamentary Delegation in connection with the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Deb’s participation comes as India outlines its priorities for the 81st UNGA, with a focus on development concerns of the Global South, climate action and climate finance, sustainable development, counter-terrorism, artificial intelligence, maritime security, peacekeeping and reform of the United Nations.
According to the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, India plans to maintain active engagement with the UN while placing particular emphasis on development issues and South-South cooperation. The country has also identified reform of the UN Security Council, strengthening peacekeeping operations and addressing emerging global challenges among its priorities for the session.
India’s priorities paper also highlights the importance of climate finance for developing countries, inclusive and sustainable development, countering terrorism and terror financing, maritime security, and a human-centric approach to artificial intelligence.
As part of the parliamentary delegation, Deb’s visit will provide an opportunity for parliamentary engagement on issues linked to India’s international outlook and its participation in multilateral forums.
The 81st UNGA session began on September 8, 2026, and India has stated that it will continue to engage with member states on development, peace and security, climate action and institutional reform during the session.
Deb’s scheduled New York visit will mark his participation in India’s parliamentary engagement associated with the 81st UN General Assembly.
