Agartala, 28th September 2026 : Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday held a virtual meeting with Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) from across the state to review preparations for a series of grassroots awareness programmes on food security schemes.
The meeting focused on strengthening awareness among beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and ensuring that eligible people are fully informed about the benefits and services available to them through the public distribution system.
During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the proposed awareness activities relating to key schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) and One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC)**.
Chowdhury directed the SDMs and other officials to take necessary steps for organising awareness programmes at the grassroots level. He stressed the need to ensure that information regarding beneficiaries’ entitlements, ration facilities and other provisions reaches people in a clear and accessible manner.
The Minister also called for close coordination among the concerned departments and field-level officials to make the programmes effective and ensure wider coverage across the state.
He urged officials to work with a public-oriented approach and give priority to reaching eligible beneficiaries, particularly at the local level.
The initiative is aimed at improving awareness of food security provisions and helping beneficiaries access their entitled benefits more effectively under the government’s public distribution system.
