Agartala, 1st October 2026 : CPI(M) Tripura state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury has urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to adopt stringent security measures and ensure a transparent, uninterrupted counting process for the ongoing TTAADC Village Committee elections.
In a letter to the State Election Commissioner, Chowdhury alleged that opposition parties faced violence and intimidation during the nomination and polling stages, claiming that candidates were prevented from filing nominations in a significant number of seats.
Calling counting the “last and final phase” of the election, he urged the Commission to take steps to prevent any untoward incident at counting centres.
Among the party’s demands are deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) at all counting halls, permission for eligible counting agents from TTAADC areas in line with the norms followed during the previous TTAADC general election, and uninterrupted webcasting from all counting centres.
The CPI(M) also sought strict restrictions on the entry of unauthorised persons into counting halls, regardless of political affiliation, and urged that counting should continue without interruption once it begins.
Chowdhury further requested police protection for opposition counting agents travelling to and from counting centres, if required.
He also called for separate designated areas for supporters of each contesting party, with adequate police deployment to regulate gatherings and maintain peace in the poll-bound areas.
