Agartala, 2nd October 2026 : Scientific farming practices and sustained field-level support under the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) are helping farmers in Jampuijala improve agricultural productivity and strengthen their livelihoods.
The Tangbiti Producer Group (PG) of Dayarampara Village Committee has emerged as an example of the benefits of adopting scientific cultivation methods, particularly in cucumber farming. The farmers have been following the Package of Practices (POP), including mulching, pheromone traps and yellow sticky traps, to improve crop management and minimise pest-related risks.
PG member Kum Kum Debbarma has already sold 1,852 kg of cucumber through 16 pickings, earning ₹1,11,120. Harvesting is continuing. Another member, Snadhyarani Debbarma, has so far sold 447 kg and earned ₹26,905, with further harvesting expected.
The initiative has also received technical and field-level support from TRESP specialists. Recently, the project’s Marketing Specialist, TSA and Agri-Entrepreneur Specialist visited the cucumber fields and interacted with PG members on cultivation, harvesting, production, marketing and challenges faced by farmers.
The TRESP Jampuijala Cluster Coordinator has been providing regular grassroots-level support to address issues faced by the Producer Groups and ensure timely coordination.
The coordinated efforts of BPM Jhuton Ghosh, the Cluster Coordinator, field functionaries, technical specialists and PG members have contributed to the progress of agriculture and livelihood interventions in the cluster.
The experience of Tangbiti PG highlights the potential of scientific cultivation, technical handholding and market-oriented farming to improve farm productivity and income, while creating a stronger foundation for sustainable rural livelihoods in Jampuijala.
