Agartala, 3rd October 2026 : Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Saturday said that extensive work is underway across the city to improve roads, drains, drainage systems and other civic infrastructure, with the objective of making Agartala more livable, clean and aesthetically pleasing.
Speaking at a civic programme, Majumder said existing infrastructure was being renovated and new facilities constructed to restore functionality and provide essential services to residents. He urged citizens to cooperate with the municipal authorities and help protect the improvements being created.
The Mayor said efforts were being made to develop Agartala into a “beautiful, pollution-free, traffic-congestion-free, clean and aesthetically pleasing” city. He credited the councillor of the concerned ward for completing a major portion of the long-pending road and drainage works, while acknowledging that further work remained.
“Since our government and municipal corporation took office, we have been striving to execute development projects based on a policy of holistic growth,” Majumder said, adding that growing public expectations and demands had also encouraged the authorities to intensify development efforts.
Referring to preparations for the upcoming Sharadiya festivities, he said the Chief Minister and the AMC had prioritised repairing key roads before the Puja so that visitors coming to Agartala could travel comfortably and safely. Officials of the AMC and various agencies, including Agartala Smart City Limited, TUDA, Tripura Water Board, PWD and the Urban Development Department, are working together on the exercise, he said.
Majumder expressed hope that most road works would be completed shortly if there was no further rainfall. He said some remaining works would be taken up after the Puja as underground cabling is currently in progress.
“I can assure you—and I give you my word—that within the next six to eight months, you will see Agartala transformed into the city of your dreams,” the Mayor said.
He maintained that substantial changes had already taken place in Agartala and urged residents to compare the condition of roads, drains and street lighting in their own wards with the situation five years ago. Development across all wards, he said, was contributing to the overall transformation of the city.
“Agartala is developing precisely because development is taking place in every single ward,” Majumder said, adding that the government was pursuing strategic planning based on the needs and aspirations of the city’s residents.
