Agartala, 7th October 2026 : An eviction drive conducted by the Sonamura Nagar Panchayat under the cover of darkness against an alleged encroachment on government land has triggered controversy in the area. An elected BJP representative of Aralia Panchayat has raised allegations against certain Nagar Panchayat representatives over the manner in which the eviction was carried out.
Though Nagar Panchayat officials declined to comment on camera, they maintained that the action was undertaken in accordance with municipal regulations. According to the authorities, a temporary structure had been erected overnight illegally beside the ramp of Dashami Ghat.
The Nagar Panchayat stated that the ramp was constructed around a year ago and that the site is earmarked for further infrastructure development at Dashami Ghat. Officials said the eviction was carried out to clear the area for the proposed development works.
