Agartala, 7th October 2026 : The Sonamura Sub-divisional Committee of the DYFI staged a two-hour mass sit-in demonstration in front of the Sonamura electricity office on Tuesday, raising several demands related to power services and workers’ rights.
The protest, which began at 12 noon, questioned the status of the government’s promised 100% waiver of the increased electricity bills. The protesters also demanded the immediate scrapping of smart meters and an end to software-generated billing.
The DYFI further called for uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming festive season, alleging that consumers have been facing difficulties due to irregularities in electricity services. Another major demand was the regularisation of irregular and contractual workers serving in the department.
Sub-divisional Secretary Indrajit Saha, State Committee members Farag Rana and Mizan Hossain, along with other DYFI leaders and supporters, participated in the demonstration. The protesters urged the authorities to address their demands at the earliest.
