Agartala, 7th October 2026 : Tension continues to prevail in the Tholibari area under Jatrapur Police Station following an alleged attack and vandalism of the vehicle of the Inspector General (IG) of Police during the counting of ADC Village Committee election votes on October 5.
The incident reportedly occurred amid heightened tension at the counting centre, where a large police contingent had been deployed to maintain law and order. According to police sources, the IG reached the spot as the situation became tense during the counting process, which began around 11 am.
During the proceedings, the IG’s official vehicle was allegedly attacked and vandalised by a group of persons. Following the incident, the IG visited Jatrapur Police Station at around 2 pm, after which police initiated an investigation to identify those involved.
A day later, a police team led by Jatrapur Police Station OC Partha Nath Bhowmik and Sonamura SDPO Abhijit Das launched an operation with personnel from four security forces. During the operation, two persons were arrested from their respective residences.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Pintu Tripura alias Guddu, 25, of Kalikhala, and Haricharan Tripura, 39, of Ledrabari. Police sources said both were produced before the court around 8 am following their arrest.
Speaking to reporters, OC Partha Nath Bhowmik said police had obtained the names of several other persons allegedly involved in the incident. Their identities are being verified as part of the investigation, he said, adding that further arrests could follow after completion of the necessary legal procedures.
Meanwhile, security has been intensified across the Jatrapur police station area in view of the prevailing tension. Police personnel are maintaining heightened surveillance to prevent any further untoward incidents.
