ICT instructors allege two months’ salary arrears, transfer threats

Date:

Agartala, 9th October 2026 :   State-appointed computer instructors engaged in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education in Tripura have alleged that they have not received their salaries for the past two months and are facing threats of transfer to distant locations and termination when they raise the issue.

Members of the All Tripura School Computer Shikshak Sangh, affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), on Friday raised the issue under the banner of Tripura Theka Majdoor Sangh, demanding immediate payment of pending salaries and clarity on their service conditions.

The representatives alleged that nearly 500 instructors associated with Sibing Learning Chart had not received their salaries for two months. They further claimed that salaries were generally delayed until the 15th to 20th of each month and that their queries regarding payment were met with threats rather than assurances.

The instructors also expressed resentment over the alleged absence of any bonus during the Durga Puja festive season. They said that despite repeated attempts to seek clarification, neither the Education Department nor the concerned company had provided a satisfactory response.

The delegation said it had approached the company’s director to seek an explanation and warned that it would intensify its agitation if no clear assurance was given. The representatives also announced plans to proceed to the Education Department headquarters at Shiksha Bhavan to participate in a demonstration and press for their demands.

Raising broader concerns over ICT education, the association claimed that computer education facilities had been established in around 1,500 schools across the state, but 365 of these schools were allegedly being used as storage facilities, preventing students from accessing computer education.

The representatives further claimed that Tripura has around 1,150 ICT instructors working for a monthly salary of only Rs 8,000, below the remuneration prescribed under central guidelines. According to them, the instructors work from 11 am to 4 pm despite receiving the comparatively low salary.

The association alleged that the Education Department and the implementing agencies were shifting responsibility onto each other whenever instructors sought the resolution of their grievances.

The instructors demanded immediate clearance of salary arrears, payment of festive bonuses, protection against alleged arbitrary transfers and termination, and steps to ensure that ICT education facilities function properly in schools across Tripura.
