Intoxicated lorry driver falls asleep on NH, triggers traffic jam

Agartala,  10th  October 2026 :  A lorry driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol fell asleep after stopping his vehicle in the middle of the Agartala-Sabroom National Highway near Amtali Police Station on Friday afternoon, triggering a massive traffic jam.

According to reports, the lorry, bearing registration number TR 01 AJ 1572, remained stranded on the highway, leaving vehicles stuck on both sides and causing considerable inconvenience to commuters.

On receiving information, Amtali Police rushed to the spot, detained the driver and impounded the vehicle. Although the lorry bore the name ‘BSF’, its actual ownership has not yet been confirmed.

The incident has raised serious concerns over road safety, with locals fearing that such irresponsible driving could have resulted in a major accident amid the ongoing campaign for a drug-free Tripura.
