Agartala, 13th October 2026 : The Bishalgarh sub-divisional administration has launched a drive against the illegal sale of firecrackers in Bishramganj market, warning traders that prior permission from the District Magistrate (DM) and Collector is mandatory for selling fireworks.
The drive was conducted on Tuesday afternoon by a joint team comprising Deputy Collector and Magistrate Prasanjit Das, Legal Metrology Officer Bishwanath Bhattacharya, Food Inspector Soma Debnath and personnel from Bishramganj police station. During the inspection, officials visited several shops, seized firecrackers and polythene bags, verified trade licences and imposed fines on violators.
Speaking to the media, Prasanjit Das said the action was being taken in accordance with directives issued by the District Magistrate and Collector and the relevant directions of the High Court.
He stated that traders intending to sell firecrackers must obtain the required licence from the DM and Collector before engaging in the business. Despite earlier publicity through newspapers and other media platforms, the team found instances of firecrackers being sold without the necessary authorisation, he added.
Das warned that unauthorised storage and sale of fireworks could pose serious safety risks and lead to untoward incidents, potentially ruining the festive celebrations. He said the administration had intensified market inspections to ensure public safety ahead of Durga Puja, Kali Puja and Lakshmi Puja.
The officials also cautioned traders that selling firecrackers without the required permission constitutes a punishable offence under the law and may attract imprisonment and fines.
The administration urged all traders to comply with the prescribed licensing requirements and follow safety regulations to ensure peaceful and accident-free festivities.
