Agartala, 16th October 2026 : In a bid to improve civic amenities, promote environmental cleanliness and encourage physical fitness, Ward 18 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has inaugurated a waste segregation shed and two open-air gyms. The projects were inaugurated by Ward 18 Corporator Abhishek Datta.
Speaking to journalists after the inauguration, Datta highlighted the importance of proper waste management and the development of public infrastructure to meet the everyday needs of residents.
The newly constructed waste segregation shed is expected to improve the systematic handling of household and other waste generated in the ward. Proper segregation of waste is considered essential for maintaining cleanliness and ensuring more efficient waste disposal. The facility is expected to strengthen local waste management efforts and contribute to a cleaner environment.
Alongside the waste management initiative, two open-air gyms have been established to encourage residents to adopt healthier lifestyles. One of the facilities is located near Pragati School. The gyms are expected to provide residents with convenient access to exercise equipment within their neighbourhood, reducing the need to travel to conventional fitness centres.
The initiative is also aimed at encouraging young people and residents of different age groups to take a greater interest in regular physical exercise and health awareness.
According to information available, approximately Rs 24 lakh has been spent on the construction of the waste segregation shed and the two open-air gyms.
The initiatives reflect an effort to strengthen civic infrastructure while addressing two important aspects of urban life—effective waste management and public health. Residents are expected to benefit from improved waste handling facilities and greater opportunities for physical exercise close to their homes.
