Broiler Poultry Farm Gutted in Fire in Sabroom, Owner Suffers Losses Worth Rs 7.5 Lakh

Date:

Agartala, 22nd October 2026 : A broiler poultry farm owned by Biswajit Majumder in Indiranagar village under Sabroom subdivision was gutted in a devastating fire in the early hours of the night, causing an estimated financial loss of around Rs 7.5 lakh.

The fire reportedly broke out at around 3:30 am, destroying the poultry shed, poultry feed and essential medicines. Around 1,000 chicks, aged just 12 days, were reportedly killed in the blaze, dealing a severe blow to the livelihood of the farm owner, who had invested considerable time, money and effort in building his poultry business.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents, particularly as another poultry farm in the surrounding area was reportedly gutted in a similar mysterious fire just three to four days earlier.

The back-to-back incidents have triggered questions over whether the fires were accidental or the result of deliberate acts of arson. However, the exact cause of the latest fire has not yet been established.

For Majumder, the incident represents not merely a financial setback but the destruction of a source of livelihood built through years of hard work and determination. The loss of the poultry stock, feed, medicines and infrastructure is expected to place a significant burden on the farmer.

The repeated incidents have also raised concerns about the safety of small-scale poultry farms and the vulnerability of farmers who depend on such businesses for their income.

Local residents and concerned sections of society are calling for a thorough investigation into the incidents to determine the cause of the fires and establish whether any foul play was involved. They have also stressed the need for appropriate action against anyone found responsible.

With two poultry farms reportedly affected by fires within a few days, questions remain over the circumstances surrounding the incidents and the measures needed to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

A detailed investigation and appropriate assistance for the affected farmer would be crucial in addressing the concerns and helping him recover from the devastating loss.
