Agartala, 26th October 2026 : A solar-powered irrigation pump motor was allegedly stolen from Majumdar Para, near Takiya Bari under Indira Nagar Gram Panchayat in Sabroom, putting the paddy crops of several farmers at risk amid the ongoing dry spell.
Farmer Khirohon Debnath discovered the theft when he visited his agricultural land on Monday morning, as part of his daily routine of checking the irrigation system and switching off the pump. He was shocked to find that the motor of the solar-powered irrigation pump was missing.
The theft has raised serious concerns among local farmers, as the region is experiencing a lack of rainfall and irrigation water has become essential to protect standing paddy crops. According to Debnath, the solar-powered pump was used to irrigate more than four bighas of his own paddy fields, besides supplying water to approximately 20–25 bighas of adjoining agricultural land.
With the irrigation system now out of operation, farmers fear that continued dry weather could severely damage their crops and result in substantial agricultural losses. The stolen motor has disrupted a vital source of water at a critical stage of cultivation.
In view of the urgent situation, Debnath has appealed to the government and concerned authorities to intervene immediately and arrange a replacement motor. He stressed that restoring the irrigation facility without delay is necessary to save the standing paddy crops and protect the livelihoods of the affected farming families.
Local farmers are hoping for prompt assistance so that irrigation can resume before the dry spell causes further damage to their fields.
