INDIA Bloc to Launch Statewide ‘Save Vote, Save Country’ Campaign in Tripura

Date:

Agartala, 26th October 2026 : The INDIA bloc will launch a series of programmes across Tripura under the slogan ‘Save Vote, Save Country’, focusing on the protection of voting rights, electoral transparency and other public interest issues. As part of the campaign, a massive public meeting will be organised in Agartala on October 30, while a nationwide rally has been scheduled at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1.

Pradeep Jain, All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader, Jhansi MLA, AICC in-charge of West Tripura and former Union Minister, announced the programmes at a press conference held at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Monday. He expressed hope that a large number of people from across the country would participate in the November 1 rally. Congress leaders also said that several programmes would be organised across different parts of Tripura over the next two months.

Addressing the press conference, Jain said voting rights were not a favour granted by any government but a constitutional right guaranteed to citizens. Referring to Article 326 of the Constitution, he said the right to vote was a fundamental pillar of India’s democratic system.

He raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the deletion of names from electoral rolls, warning that such practices could undermine the democratic rights of ordinary citizens. Questioning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, the Congress leader claimed that a large number of voters had been removed from electoral rolls across the country.

Jain maintained that deleting a voter’s name without proper notice and adherence to prescribed procedures was a serious matter. He called for greater transparency in the preparation, revision and correction of electoral rolls, urging the Election Commission to ensure that no eligible voter was deprived of the right to vote.

He further claimed that, during a recent election, the name of a BJP MP could not be found on the electoral roll, arguing that such incidents raised questions about the functioning of the Election Commission.

Criticising the BJP’s stand on the issue, Jain demanded an impartial investigation into allegations of irregularities in electoral rolls. He also called for the immediate restoration of names that had allegedly been removed unlawfully. According to him, the focus should be on addressing concerns over electoral transparency rather than defending the Election Commission against criticism.

Speaking about the November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan, Jain said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi would lead the programme. Other constituent parties of the INDIA bloc are also expected to participate. He said the organisers were aiming to bring together around 10 lakh people from across the country.

Jain also raised concerns over Tripura’s political and socio-economic situation, particularly unemployment and drug trafficking. He alleged that these problems had assumed serious proportions under the present government and stressed that the people’s voting rights remained a key instrument for bringing about a change of government through democratic means.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant about electoral roll revisions and join the campaign to safeguard voting rights. Emphasising the broader significance of the movement, Jain said the fight to protect voting rights was not merely the concern of any one political party but a struggle to preserve democracy itself.

Senior Congress leader and party spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, along with other party leaders, was present at the press conference.

The Congress leadership appealed to people across Tripura and the country to participate in the upcoming programmes and make the November 1 rally in New Delhi a success.
