Agartala, 26th October 2026 : Tension gripped Dhupirbandh Gram Panchayat under Yubarajnagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura’s Dharmanagar subdivision following the mysterious death of a 32-year-old driver, identified as Shihab Uddin, son of Monir Uddin.
According to the deceased’s family, Shihab had been away from home with his vehicle for the past four days and did not have a mobile phone with him during that period. The family has alleged that he was brutally assaulted and claimed that the incident may have links to alleged drug-related activities. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
Family members said Shihab was reportedly staying at the house of Ichub Ali, a resident of Ward No. 3 in the same village, until the previous day. On the evening of the incident, an unidentified toto driver allegedly dropped him in front of Ichub Ali’s house before leaving.
When Shihab returned home, blood was reportedly flowing from his nose and mouth. After speaking briefly with his family members, he collapsed and died. Before his death, he allegedly named Ichub Ali and claimed that he had been severely beaten by him.
The incident sparked anger among local residents, who reportedly gathered at Ichub Ali’s house and brought him out. Amid the commotion, some members of the crowd allegedly assaulted him. Police arrived at the scene and took Ichub Ali into custody. The process of registering a case under the relevant legal provisions was reportedly underway.
Meanwhile, several villagers have alleged that Ichub Ali is involved in drug trafficking and the storage of narcotic substances. Some residents have also claimed that drug-related activities may have played a role in the incident. These allegations, however, have not been independently verified, and the motive behind the death remains to be established.
After receiving information about the incident, police recovered Shihab’s body and sent it to Dharmanagar District Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death is expected to become clearer once the post-mortem report is available.
Police have reportedly begun investigating the circumstances of the death, including the family’s allegations of assault and the possible connection, if any, with drug-related activities. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
