Agartala, 26th October 2026 : Three families in Ward No. 3 of Kadamtala Panchayat in North Tripura are facing uncertainty over their homes following allegations that the same plot of land was sold multiple times by its original owner, Rani Malakar, wife of Gopendra Malakar. The dispute has triggered concern in the locality, with several cases reportedly pending before Kadamtala Police Station and the Dharmanagar court.
According to the complainants, the three families purchased separate portions of the land with their hard-earned money nearly 46 years ago and subsequently established their homes there. They are now apprehensive about losing their residential properties amid the ongoing ownership dispute.
The families involved are Rabindra Das, Iyarun Nessa, wife of late Bolon Uddin and daughter-in-law of late Yasin Ali, and Chandan Malakar. They reportedly purchased four sataks, 16 sataks and six sataks of land, respectively, after paying the agreed prices.
The complainants stated that sale deeds had been prepared at the time of purchase. However, a portion of the land was allegedly mortgaged with a bank, preventing the purchasers from obtaining land records, or parchas, in their names. They further claimed that the issue remained unresolved following the death of a subsequent owner.
Taking advantage of the prolonged complications surrounding the land records, Rani Malakar allegedly sold the same property again to Faruk Ahmed, son of Mokaddas Ali, and Prabhat Malakar. The complainants suspect that the subsequent transfers were carried out through financial transactions without properly resolving the claims of the families already residing on the land.
The alleged resale came to light later, leaving the three families concerned about the security of their homes and their long-standing possession of the property.
The complainants subsequently approached the Kadamtala tehsildar with a written complaint and also moved the Dharmanagar court, according to the information available.
They have raised questions over how land deeds and parchas were allegedly issued again by Kadamtala Tehsildar Kalyan Shuklabaidya despite the ongoing dispute and pending legal proceedings. The complainants have also levelled allegations of substantial financial transactions against the official. However, these allegations could not be independently verified, and his version was not available at the time of filing this report.
The complainants have further alleged that Faruk Ahmed and Prabhat Malakar have been asserting ownership over the disputed land and pressuring the long-time occupants to vacate their homes. They claimed that Rabindra Das, Chandan Malakar and Iyarun Nessa have been asked to leave the property and have allegedly received threats to their lives. The accused persons’ responses to these allegations could not be obtained.
Among the three families, Iyarun Nessa, a widow and mother of two children, is reportedly facing particularly difficult circumstances. Despite having invested her own money in purchasing the land and living there for years, she now fears losing her home. Rabindra Das and Chandan Malakar are also facing similar uncertainty as they continue their legal and administrative efforts to protect their claims.
Seeking a permanent resolution, the complainants have appealed to the administration, local elected representatives and the Chief Minister of Tripura to intervene. They have demanded an impartial examination of the land ownership records and the relevant documents, along with appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible for wrongdoing.
