Elderly woman attacked, chain snatched during morning walk at Jogendranagar

Date:

Agartala, 8th November 2026 :    An elderly woman was allegedly assaulted and robbed of her gold chain by two unidentified miscreants during her morning walk in Jogendranagar on Sunday, triggering fresh concerns over public safety in the city.

The incident reportedly took place around 6 am on Ramakrishna Road, near Kata Sheola. According to the victim, two youths arrived on a motorcycle without a visible number plate. They initially rode past her but soon turned back and approached her again.

The miscreants allegedly pushed the elderly woman to the ground before forcibly snatching the chain from her neck and fleeing the scene. The victim sustained injuries during the attack and reportedly had to receive an injection following the incident.

Recounting her ordeal, the woman said that she was walking along the road when the two youths suddenly attacked her. She stated that she did not even realise how the chain was cut from her neck before the assailants escaped. She also mentioned that the motorcycle did not have a visible registration number plate.

Other women present in the vicinity reportedly raised an alarm and shouted at the miscreants, but the attackers managed to escape.

The incident has created concern among local residents, particularly as the robbery took place in the early morning when people regularly venture out for walks. The alleged use of an unregistered or number-plate-free motorcycle has also raised questions about the movement of suspicious vehicles in the area.

Residents have called for increased police patrolling and stronger security measures to prevent such incidents, especially during the festive season.
