BY TC News Desk

Agartala, June 12, 2023: Every year after entering the pre-monsoon or monsoon state, the city of Agartala gets submerged in a short period of heavy rain. Flood water entering houses and roads become water-logged. People were subjected to extreme suffering.

Therefore, the current Agartala Municipal Council is working to protect the city residents from this water woe. The plan is being worked on. This year there was not much rain in pre-monsoon. Monsoon also entered the state a week late. In case of heavy rains, the AMC has already taken measures so that people do not suffer.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that Akhaura and Kalapania canals have been cleaned this year with skilled workers from outside companies. Besides, the main drains of all the wards of Agartala city have been cleaned. The drainage system has improved a lot. There are 18 pumps to get the water out of the city quickly. Two are newly installed.

He said that even though there is a lot of rain in Agartala city, there should not be water for a long time in some parts.

The Mayor also said that after the BJP government came in 2018, the government has taken special initiatives to free the people of the city from water woes. The hope of the mayor is that this year, the way the drains have been cleaned, the drainage system has been improved, the city will not be flooded for a long time.

However, whatever the Mayor claims, only when it rains heavily during the monsoon will it be understood how much the drainage system has actually improved.
