Agartala: June 28. Tripura Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday has directed the health department to conduct a thorough review of the establishment of pharmaceutical factories in the state.

During a State Level Seminar on Fixation on Ceiling Price under NLEM 2022 at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala, he also announced the government’s plans to set up drug rehabilitation centers in all districts of the state.

He mentioned that if states like Sikkim can successfully operate pharmaceutical factories, then there is no reason why a pharmaceutical factory cannot be established in our state.

“There used to be pharmaceutical factories in the state in the past, but they disappeared over time. It has been observed that the presence of illicit drugs has significantly diminished within our state. Nonetheless, there has been a surge in interest from foreign investors towards investing in our pharmaceutical industry, as well as other sectors. Establishing a pharmaceutical industry within the state will not pose any difficulties”, said CM

The Chief Minister also brought attention to the issue of unscrupulous traders who, under the guise of selling licensed medicines, engage in the sale of prohibited drugs behind their shops, solely driven by the desire for increased profits.

“This detrimental practice has had a destructive impact on successive generations. Everyone have to closely scrutinize these dishonest traders and raise their voices against them. Union Home Minister Amit Shah held meetings with Chief Ministers of various states in Guwahati and Haryana to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against these banned drugs. In these meetings he gave clear orders to take strict action against illicit drugs”, he said.
