Agartala: August 04. In a bid to address the mounting traffic congestion and nighttime accidents that have been plaguing the city, the Agartala traffic police have launched a comprehensive strategy targeting illegal parking. As part of the new approach, fines are being strictly imposed on vehicles parked in prohibited areas.

The traffic police’s special enforcement team has been working diligently since Friday morning to discreetly affix penalty stickers of over five hundred rupees on bikes and cars found parked illegally on the side of the road. This move comes in response to the growing trend of urban residents purchasing luxury cars and illegally occupying government land for parking, exacerbating the traffic situation and causing inconvenience to the townspeople.

Traffic jam, particularly during peak hours, has become a significant issue, and nighttime accidents have seen a surge in recent times. To tackle this critical problem head-on, the traffic police are taking strong measures against those who disregard parking regulations in the city.

Under the new system, first-time offenders are issued a fine of Rs 500, while subsequent violations will result in doubled penalties. The operation primarily targets the busiest roads in Agartala, with a particular focus on areas such as the motor stand to ensure effective enforcement.

Citizens of Agartala have expressed their overwhelming support for such measures to be conducted regularly, urging authorities not to show any bias towards influential individuals who leave their vehicles parked illegally for extended periods. The lack of proper parking arrangements has inconvenienced pedestrians and contributed significantly to the city’s traffic woes.

With the consistent implementation of fines and penalties, the authorities hope to encourage car owners to be more mindful of their parking behavior and take necessary steps to avoid contributing to traffic congestion. The enforcement team is also calling on vehicle owners to promptly pay fines, thereby discouraging repeated offenses. The residents’ demand for regular enforcement indicates the urgency of addressing the traffic issue promptly, ensuring a safer and smoother commuting experience for everyone in Agartala. As the operation continues, authorities are optimistic that it will raise awareness and promote responsible parking practices among car owners, ultimately alleviating the city’s traffic problems.
