PM condoles passing away of nuclear physicist Bikash Sinha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sorrow at the passing away of renowned nuclear physicist Bikash Sinha and said he was pained at the demise of the scientist.

A recipient of Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhusan in 2010, Bikash Sinha, a nuclear physicist and former director of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) and the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), passed away here on Friday in the city at age 78.

“Shri Bikash Sinha Ji will be remembered for his monumental contribution towards science, especially in the field of nuclear physics and high energy physics,” PM Modi said in his condolence message.

“His (Bikash Sinha) passion towards furthering a vibrant research ecosystem was noteworthy. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi concluded.

Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose said, “Deeply pained that Dr Bikash Sinha has left for his heavenly abode. He was a personal friend ever since I joined the Department of Atomic Energy.

An eminent scientist and a good human being… May the soul of the dear departed rest in peace.”

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, condoling his demise, described him as a talented nuclear physicist and illustrious son of Bengal.

“Saddened to know about the untimely demise of the great scientist Bikash Sinha,” Banerjee said.
