Agartala: September 06. In a show of discontent against rising commodity prices and soaring unemployment, the Communist Party of India’s Dukli sub-committee organized a protest march that wound its way through the city on Wednesday.

The procession commenced near the capital’s drop gate and was led by former Member of Parliament, Jharna Das Baidya.

Addressing a gathering of supporters during a road-side meeting following the rally, she blamed the financial crisis gripping the nation on the Narendra Modi-led government.

She expressed concern over the escalating levels of unemployment, social injustices, and the mistreatment of women.

Jharna also criticized the government’s use of state power to quell protests, despite a lack of public support for their policies.

She also the central government’s decision to call a special session of parliament, typically reserved for times of food crises or emergencies.

“This move was driven by a shift in the political landscape, with the government increasingly concerned about the India alliance. Educated unemployed youths were forced to toil day and night for meager earnings, typically around five to six thousand rupees. The need to remove the current government from power as the only solution to these problems”, she said.

Moreover, she took a swipe at the ruling party, BJP, accusing them of exerting undue influence in the by-elections held in two constituencies in Tripura on the same day.
