Agartala, 13th October 2023: The Casual and permanent workers of Veterinary College under the Animal Resource Development Department held a protest demanding puja bonus and advance. They took to the college premises in protest, demanding their annual advance payment of Rs 20,000 and bonus. While they were granted their usual bonus, the advance remained conspicuously absent this year, leaving the workers disgruntled and disheartened.

They have said that for years, they have labored diligently, and yet, their positions remain precarious, lacking the security of regular employment. Their grievances resonate with a sense of long-standing neglect and a plea for fair treatment. Efforts were made by college authorities to mediate and find a resolution with the protesting workers.

Regrettably, these discussions yielded no breakthrough. One officer, while expressing his empathy, indicated that the power to address this issue rests beyond his purview, having relayed the matter to higher authorities. There were 37 casual workers and 23 permanent workers among the agitating workers. They also alleged that their jobs were not regular for many years. They complained that they have been deprived for many years.
