Agartala, October 14: The Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress has called on the state government to fulfill its promise of increasing wages for ASHA and Mid-day meal workers, and provide adequate puja grants.
In a press release, Sarbani Chakraborty, the State President of the Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee, stated, “We, the Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress, have been closely monitoring the state’s dual-engine government, which, much like the central government, has been backtracking on its promises. A similar commitment was made by the Chief Minister on the eve of the December 2022 assembly elections, stating that the monthly wages of ASHA workers and mid-day meal workers in the state would be raised by 1000 rupees.”
They argue that nearly 10 months have passed, and their wages remain unchanged. On the occasion of this shardotsav, people from all walks of life, especially the working class, hope for some financial relief from the government to bring smiles to their families.
“Such benevolent gestures are expected from any responsible government. However, this double-engine good governance government is heaping economic burdens on the people of the state. Meanwhile, the prices of essential commodities are soaring, making them unaffordable for many. In light of this, we, the Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress, urgently request the state government to fulfill its promise of increasing wages for ASHA and mid-day meal workers, and to provide proper puja grants,” she added.
