More than Rs 50 crore sanctioned for Tripura’s sports infrastructure, says Sushanta Chowdhury

Agartala, August 11, 2022: Several initiatives have been taken and more than Rs 50 crore has been sanctioned for robust infrastructural development of sports sector in Tripura, said Youth Affairs and Sports minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters here at Civil Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, Chowdhury said “A sum of Rs 5 crore for football synthetic turf at Chandrapur under Gomati district, Rs 7 crore for an athlete synthetic turf at Dasarath Deb State Sports Complex in Badharghat, Rs 5 crore for football synthetic turf at Khowai government school ground and Rs 5 crore for a swimming pool at Regional College for Physical Education in Panisagar under Khelo India scheme have been initiated. The construction works are at the edge of completion and likely to be inaugurated within two months”.

Meanwhile, Chowdhury in his recent visit to New Delhi met with union Sports minister Anurag Singh Thakur and Rs 17.5 crore has been sanctioned for the development of sports infrastructure. “This fund will be utilized for synthetic turf to play hockey at Dasarath Deb State Sports Complex, synthetic turf to play football at Jampuijala, synthetic turf for athletes at Panisagar”, he added.

He also said “This is for the first time in the history of Tripura that the budgetary allocations has been hiked from Rs 7.5 crore to Rs 12 crore. A 100-bed hostel at RIPI at Panisagar spending Rs 4.64 crore is in the edge of completion under the North Eastern Council.”

“A detailed project report worth Rs 70 crore has been proposed to the central government for developing the Dasarath Deb State Sports Complex’s infrastructure here. The Ministry of Sports is likely to accept the proposal and extend support. Moreover, the Sports Authority of India officials visited the state recently. They inspected different locations in eight districts and report submitted for opening of multipurpose indoor halls in each district”, he added.

Sports minister said “The state government sanctioned Rs 20 crore to the Youth Affairs and Sports department under the special assistance scheme through which Rs 5 crore to be spent for construction of football synthetic turf each at Umakanta Mini-Stadium, Sachindranagar Colony, Tulakona and Belonia Government School ground.”
