Agartala, November 27: The National Law University, Tripura (NLU Tripura) observed the 74th Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, to honour the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949 on Sunday last.
The event featured a constitution day lecture by Prof. (Dr.) P. S. Jaswal, Vice- Chancellor of SRM University, Haryana and former Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) Patiala and Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) Raipur. The lecture focused on the theme of “Transformative Constitutionalism”, a concept that refers to the ability of the constitution to bring about social change and justice.
Prof. Jaswal, who was the chief guest of the event, delivered an insightful and captivating lecture that covered various aspects of India’s constitutional journey, such as the role of the judiciary, the parliament, the executive, and the citizens in upholding the constitutional values and principles. He also discussed the global perspectives, challenges, and opportunities of transformative constitutionalism, and how it relates to the notions of happiness and parliamentary supremacy. He drew examples from various landmark cases, legislations, and constitutional amendments to illustrate his points.
The lecture was followed by an interactive question and answer session, where the faculty and students of NLU Tripura raised several queries and comments on the topic. Prof. Jaswal addressed them with clarity and depth, and encouraged further research and dialogue on the subject.
The event was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of NLU Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, who welcomed the chief guest and the participants, and highlighted the significance of the constitution day. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Registrar of NLU Tripura, Prof. Nachiketa Mittal, who expressed his gratitude to Prof. Jaswal, the faculty, and the students for making the event a success.
