At least three people died and dozens of communities were devastated after two rivers overflowed in the rural Bolivian province of Potosi, local authorities said on Monday.
The fatal victims, a woman in her seventies and two children aged 3 and 8 respectively, were washed away Sunday by the floods in the municipality of Cotagaita, Genaro Mendez, secretary of agricultural development and food security of the Potosi government, told reporters.
Roads, houses and other physical structures have also been severely damaged, it added.
At least 25 rural communities and 1,500 families have been affected by the flooding, Juan Carlos Calvimontes, Bolivian Deputy Minister of Civil Defense, said Monday in a press conference.
Local media also indicated that two to five people have still to be accounted for.
