Agartala, December 12: In a proactive move to address the escalating concerns of cybercrime and drug abuse, a one-day awareness camp was conducted at Dharmanagar Government Degree College through the collaborative efforts of the State Security Department. The event, primarily targeting college students, saw the participation of distinguished guests, including North District DIG Manchak Ipper and North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty.

The overarching objective of the awareness camp was to equip young individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to protect themselves from the rising tide of cybercrime. Attendees were urged to exercise caution when approached for sensitive information, particularly One-Time Passwords (OTPs), and were advised to promptly report any suspicions to law enforcement. The initiative aimed to thwart the nefarious activities of cybercriminals preying on unsuspecting victims and safeguard individuals from potential financial ruin.

Additionally, the camp emphasized the critical importance of steering clear from drug abuse and highlighted strategies to contribute to the well-being of both individuals and society. Participants were engaged in discussions on effective methods of averting the pitfalls of drug addiction and were encouraged to play an active role in preserving the overall health of the community.

Addressing the audience, DIG Manchak Ipper underscored the vulnerability of India’s youthful demographic, constituting 66 percent of the population below 35 years. He expressed concerns over external threats to exploit this demographic dividend, with foreign powers seeking opportunities to derail India’s economic aspirations. Particularly citing the neighbouring countries of China, Pakistan, and the North-East region, DIG Ipper warned against the concerted efforts to ensnare the youth in the clutches of drugs, potentially undermining India’s future economic prosperity.

The awareness camp concluded with a comprehensive discussion on the experiences of individuals who had fallen victim to cybercrime, exploring preventive measures and strategies for intervention. The event served as a pivotal platform to empower the youth with knowledge, enabling them to resist temptations and contribute to the collective resilience against cyber threats and drug abuse.
