Raikanai JB School students suffer from lack of water and electricity for 24 years

Agartala, December 23: Students of Raikanai Junior Basic School in Mandai RD block have been facing a severe crisis of drinking water and electricity for almost a quarter of a century. The school’s electrical connection was cut off shortly after its establishment, and no efforts have been made by the authorities to restore it. As a result, the school’s water supply system has also been dysfunctional, forcing the students to go home for their toilet needs and drink unsafe water from nearby sources.

A teacher of the school, who wished to remain anonymous, said that they have repeatedly informed the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) about the situation, but no action has been taken. He blamed the successive governments of the Left Front and the BJP-IPFT alliance for neglecting the school and its students. He said that the double engine government’s claim of good governance and development has not reached their school yet.

The school’s plight has also drawn the attention of the media and the civil society, who have urged the state government to intervene and solve the problem. They have appealed to the Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath and the DWS Minister Sushanta Chowdhury to take immediate steps to provide water and electricity to the school and ensure the basic rights of the students.
