Agartala, December 31:  In an ongoing crackdown against cannabis cultivation, Tripura police dismantled a substantial cannabis plantation on Sunday.

Subimal Debnath, Officer-in-Charge of Bisramganj police station, reported that the operation was executed based on intelligence from undisclosed sources.

“A collaborative effort involving the Bishalgarh police station, TSR and BSF personnel, officials from the Narcotics Control Bureau, and the Forest Department was undertaken in ONGC Tilla, Anandanagar, and Vijayanagar areas under the jurisdiction of Bisramganj police station,” Debnath stated.

The operation spanned nearly five hours, resulting in the destruction of approximately 2 lakh cannabis plants across 100 acres of land under the purview of the forest department, according to the police. While several cannabis cultivators were observed fleeing the area, abandoning their plantations, no arrests were made during the operation.

OC Bisramganj police station affirmed that similar operations would persist in the forthcoming days.
