Agartala, 11th January 2024:   Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy announced today that the construction of towers for the 4G saturation project is on track to be completed by March of this year. The project aims to address internet connectivity issues in remote areas of the state.

Roy stated, “The government is diligently working to resolve internet connectivity problems in all remote areas of the state.” He provided this information in a written response to a question posed by Leader of the Opposition Animesh Debvarma during the Legislative Assembly’s question and answer session.

The 4G saturation project, initiated by the Government of India with support from the Universal Service of Legation Fund (USOF), is being implemented by BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) in the state. BSNL has identified 125 sites for the construction of new 4G mobile towers and 8 sites for upgrading existing towers to 4G.

Roy explained, “The state government has allocated 2000 square feet of government/forest department-owned land to BSNL free of charge for the project.” He added that, according to BSNL authorities, the tower construction work for the 4G saturation project is expected to be completed by March this year.

To identify areas where mobile and internet services are lacking, a continuous search process is underway. The government plans to provide telecommunication and internet services to these underserved villages through various state and central schemes.
