Agartala, 12th January 2024 :  Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, in an oblique reference to the BJP, claimed today that some political parties are attempting to exploit religion for narrow gains in electoral politics.

“The social system that Swami Vivekananda envisioned has not materialized even after 75 years of independence. There is an ongoing effort to create divisions in the name of religion in the country. Certain political parties are using religion with a narrow perspective to secure votes. However, Swami Vivekananda aimed to safeguard the unity of the country. Therefore, it is essential to move people beyond the narrow views of political parties and inspire them with Swamiji’s ideals for genuine respect beyond mere formality,” said Sarkar.

Sarkar, a Politburo member, made these remarks during a tribute ceremony on the 161st birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the DYFI Headquarters Divisional Committee at Chatra Yuba Bhavan. Sarkar emphasized Swami Vivekananda’s belief that those contributing their blood and sweat to build society’s wealth are workers, but their contributions often go unnoticed. He underscored the importance of transmitting Swami Vivekananda’s ideals to the new generation.

Sarkar congratulated those who participated in the blood donation camp and stressed the significance of continuing such initiatives. Later, he visited the blood donation camp, encouraging donors to sustain their commitment. DYFI state president Palash Bhowmik and other officials accompanied Politburo member Manik Sarkar during the visit.
