Forest land encroached and destroyed at Santirbazar, locals blame forest officials

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, January 28: A large-scale illegal soil filling and land grabbing activity is taking place in Santirbazar, where several people are encroaching on the forest department’s land near the police station. The forest land, as well as the road in the area, has been severely damaged by the soil filling. An employee of the Sericulture Department is allegedly involved in the destruction of the forest land, as he is taking soil from the forest area to his residence.

The locals have raised questions about the inaction of the Bogafa Forest Range, which is supposed to protect the forest land from encroachment. They suspect that the Bogafa Forester Ranger, has been bribed by the land grabbers and is turning a blind eye to the illegal activities. They also accuse the beat officers of the range of being corrupt and negligent, as they have failed to stop the forest bandits from cutting trees with machines in broad daylight in Durpabari area of Bogafa.

The Bogafa forest has become a hotspot of corruption and environmental degradation, as the forest officials have failed to perform their duties. The locals demand that the senior officials of the forest department take immediate action to stop the soil filling and land grabbing, and restore the forest land to its original state. They also urge the authorities to take strict action against the forest officials who are involved in the scam.
